Dave tricked us all with the proposal. He and Emily were going back to Dallas for her brother’s birthday and a fancy dinner for the two of them since his mom was giving him a hard time about not going on enough fancy dates (this comment was all part of the plan). Dave also told Em that they should stop by some jewelry stores while they were in the city so he could get a better idea of what she liked. He even told her to paint her nails for trying on rings (part of the plan too because Em’s nails weren’t looking the best the day before and no one wants chipped nails in their first engagement pictures). Little did anyone know that Dave has already had Em’s ring since last April!!
Crazy to look back old pics of the two...
The two got all dressed up for dinner, but Dave suggested they leave early to try out her new camera at the Dallas Arboretum since they didn’t have time to back at school. Em recalls it as perfect….walking through the grass barefoot on the 75 degree unusually warm day, completely oblivious as to what was about to happen. Just as the sun was setting they came to a pretty waterfall where Dave got down on one knee, told Em how much he loved her and popped the question. Apparently Em just stood there and Dave was like “So….” Before she said YES!!! Em claims that didn’t happen, and that she said YES right away. Maybe time sped up for one and slowed down for the other but that doesn’t matter because she said YES!! They then proceeded to have an intimate, fancy dinner before joining her family.
Of course when they texted me the picture above I started freaking out and ran around our house screaming! I called immediately and could not have been happier…they had to remind me that I was on speaker phone and yelling extremely loud. Since they were coming home the next day, all the roommates went straight into planning mode to make sure we threw a special “She Said Yes Party”.
Encouragement Notes
We invited their closest friends, did a major clean-up of the house and decided to go for artsy, anthro decorations. Our family room became a “shrine” to Emily and Dave. We even went through Emily’s computer to find old pictures of the couple to make a short video slideshow of them.

The roomies + LO our old roomie!
They were so excited when they came back, and we all loved hearing the engagement story in person.
Em and LO comparing rings!
Telling their story...
Dave's jeans were still grass stained from when he knelt down to pop the question.
